The BMW K1100 LT is a luxury touring motorcycle produced by BMW during the 1990s, replacing the earlier K100 LT and designed for long distance comfort with touring spec fairing and integrated luggage.
It features a four-stroke, liquid-cooled, horizontal inline-four engine displacing 1,092 cc with DOHC and four valves per cylinder, producing around 100 hp and about 107 Nm of torque.
The engine uses Bosch Motronic electronic fuel injection and drives the rear wheel via a shaft drive and five-speed gearbox.
Its touring package included an electrically adjustable windscreen, heated grips, ABS brakes and ample storage in the panniers and top-box.

There are several common weaknesses to be aware of. These include:

• • Some riders report starting and electrical issues, including starter motor and relay problems after sitting unused. Also weak batteries and fuse issues can occur.
• • Others note fuel system issues such as rich running, blue smoke or misfiring under load, often traced to fuel pump wear or throttle body/ECU quirks.
• • Valve stem seals and final drive spline lubrication require attention on high mileage bikes
• • Cooling fans can be prone to seizing without use.
• • Rear splines in the final drive and rear drive universal joint have been points of weakness noted among owners.
• • Additionally, some electrical loads like the electric screen or ABS systems can fail with age.

Regular valve clearance checks, cooling system maintenance and careful inspection of seals and clutch components can help mitigate many age or mileage related failures.
