The Honda NT650V Deauville is a practical mid range touring bike produced from 1998 to 2006, designed to offer comfortable all day riding with sensible performance and minimal fuss.
Its powered by a liquid-cooled 647cc V-twin engine with SOHC and 6-speed gearbox with a shaft drive that reduces routine maintenance (compared to chain driven bikes).
The engine produces around 55 bhp with strong low to midrange torque, making it ideal for relaxed cruising and commuting.
Frame-mounted bodywork and an upright riding position provide good weather protection and integrated built-in panniers, glove compartments and a moderately sized 19 litre fuel tank contribute to its tourer credentials.
Wet weight is around 215-243 kg and while not light, the bike’s balanced handling and manageable seat height make it accessible for a wide range of riders.

Despite its strengths, there are several known weaknesses and failure points to watch for. These include:

• • Corrosion is common on exhausts, engine mounts and water pump housings, especially in wetter climates and rust inside the fuel tank can be an issue on bikes unused for long periods.
• • Fuel pump failure is a regularly reported fault and some owners note minor electrical gremlins such as regulator/rectifier problems or vacuum-boot deterioration affecting idle quality.
• • The braking system varies by year (Brembo early, Nissin linked later) and can feel wooden or prone to sticking if not maintained.
• • Pannier lids and latches also wear or stick with age and the headlight is often considered underpowered by modern standards.
• • Regular valve clearance checks and inspection of cooling system seals and suspension components are recommended when checking a Deauville.
