Question: Would the Rock Oil Guardian 10w40 semi synthetic be suitable for my Honda CRF450 mx bike?
Answer: Yes, Rock Oil Guardian 10w40 is suitable for a CRF450 (and is used by a few MX racers and teams).
Question: Is Rock Oil Guardian 10w40 ok to use in a 2008 Kawasaki KX450F and how often should I change the oil?
Answer: Rock Oil Guardian 10w40 is fine for a Kawasaki KX450F (you should need about 1.2 litres for an oil change).
How often you change the oil would really depend on what your using the bike for.
If the bike is being used for competition or race use I would recommend changing the oil after every race meet.
If the bike is being used for non competitive off road use or green lane riding you would change the oil less frequently (about every 4 to 6 rides depending on how hard the bike is being ridden).
Question: Can you please recommend a mid priced oil for my 2004 Suzuki SV 1000?
Answer: For an 04 Suzuki SV1000 we would recommend Rock Oil Guardian 10w40 (you should need about 3.3 litres for an oil and filter change). You would also need a
Suzuki SV 1000 oil filter (OIF015).
Question: I just wanted to know what does JASO MA and JASO MA2 standard for oil mean?
Answer: Warning, the following part is a bit boring (unless your an oil anorak!):
JASO stands for an oil standards organisation known as the
Japanese Automotive Standards Organization.
In 1998 Jaso developed a set of standards for 4 stroke oils which were measured against an oils ability to resist clutch friction, slippage, protection offered against engine wear and pitting in the gear box (JASO-MA was the standard given to higher friction oils and JASO-MB to lower friction oils).
JASO-MA2 is a recent standard brought out by JASO for oils which meet the stringent motorcycle performance needs of later (and more modern) motorcycle engines.
The JASO MA and MA2 specifications are the only true motorcycle specific approvals available and as such are a sign that the oil has passed stringent motorcycle performance tests.
Question: Whats the difference between Rock Oil Motorcycle 10w40 semi synthetic and Guardian 10w40 semi synthetic?
Answer: Rock Oil Guardian 10w40 is a higher spec semi-synthetic motorcycle oil and is rated up to API SL (Motorcycle 10w40 is only rated to API SG).
Rock Oil Guardian 10w40 is mainly made from group 1 (the best!) oil base stocks,
Rock Oil Motorcycle 10w40 semi-synthetic is made from mainly group 3 base stocks (hence the lower spec).
Question: Which engine oil would you recommend for a 2011 Suzuki DL650-V V-Strom?
Answer: For a 2011 DL 650 VStrom we would recommend Rock Oil Guardian 10w40. You should need about 3.1 litres of oil for an engine oil and filter change.
You will also need a
Suzuki DL650 V-Strom oil filter (OIF015).
